JE is a resilient 20-year-old young man from Chileka, currently battling Burkitt’s Lymphoma—a rare and aggressive form of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma that primarily affects children and young adults. This type of cancer attacks the lymphatic system, which plays a crucial role in the body’s immune defenses. Without early and effective treatment, Burkitt’s Lymphoma can spread rapidly to other organs and become life-threatening in a matter of weeks.

Despite the seriousness of his condition, JE has shown remarkable determination. Even while undergoing treatment, he continues to pursue his education and is currently enrolled in Standard 4 at a local primary school. His desire to learn and remain connected to his peers reflects a deep commitment to building a better future for himself.

However, cancer has taken a devastating toll on his body. JE is now paralyzed and immobile, a result of disease progression and complications from treatment. This loss of mobility has made everyday tasks—such as moving around the house, attending school, or simply spending time outside with others—extremely difficult. The absence of a wheelchair has placed immense physical and emotional strain on him and his caregivers, severely impacting both his educational opportunities and his overall quality of life.

A wheelchair would dramatically transform JE’s daily experience. With proper mobility support, he would be able to attend school more consistently, engage with his community, and regain a sense of independence and dignity. It would also relieve some of the burden on his family, who currently assist with every aspect of his movement and care.

More than just a medical device, a wheelchair for JE represents hope, inclusion, and a chance to thrive. It would empower him to stay engaged with his education and maintain vital social connections, both of which are essential to his mental health and long-term recovery.

JE has not given up—and with the right support, he doesn’t have to.
